Sahand University of Technology has allocated a significant share of education and research in the field of petroleum engineering. The university's activity in this field began in 2003. In this year, master's degree students in petroleum engineering (reservoir orientation) were accepted at this university. In the following years, master's degree students in petroleum engineering in the fields of drilling, exploitation and oil exploration were also accepted. Then, with the necessary permits, admission of doctoral students in petroleum engineering was also carried out at the university. The first doctoral student graduated in 2012. Continuing the development of the petroleum engineering field at Sahand University, the undergraduate course in petroleum engineering has also been started at this university since 2014. Given the necessity of establishing the Faculty of Petroleum and Gas Engineering, the necessary permit was issued by the university to establish the Faculty of Petroleum and Gas Engineering, and in 2017, the Faculty of Petroleum and Gas Engineering officially began its activities as the first faculty of petroleum and gas engineering in the north and northwest of the country. This faculty currently accepts students in three levels: Bachelor's, Master's and PhD in Petroleum Engineering, and some of the graduates of this faculty are working in the most important oil centers of the country and are influential managers of the country's oil industry. Since 2015, Sahand University of Technology has been selected as one of the 6 academic centers selected by the Ministry of Oil as a consultant for the Soroush Field Development Plan. In this regard, the Faculty of Petroleum and Gas Engineering, in close cooperation with the Offshore Oil Company (the client) and international oil companies, is preparing and optimally implementing the Soroush Field Development Plan. Also, the Oil and Gas Research Institute of Sahand University of Technology, as a research center, is responsible for the necessary services for the faculty's research affairs with appropriate laboratory equipment facilities, and related experiments and research are carried out in this research institute.
