Masjed Soleiman Oilfield

Masjed Soleiman Oilfield

Masjed Soleiman field, as the oldest field in the country, still has significant reserves of hydrocarbon resources. On the other hand, considering the necessity of producing the country's needs without relying on other countries and giving importance to technology during the sanctions, and the necessity of using the capabilities of universities in order to play a more effective role of the country's universities in national development and the development of the research network, field-based contracts have been concluded with universities based on real indicators for technology transfer. In this regard, and considering the results of the university's successful cooperation with the National Iranian Oil Company in the field of the Soroush field project, carrying out technological and research affairs of the Masjed Soleiman oil field was assigned to Sahand University of Technology/Sahand Oil and Gas Research Institute, so that by analyzing and carefully examining the oil field information by the university and utilizing the university's knowledge-based capacities, an effective step can be taken towards developing technologies to optimize production processes and increase the recovery rate from the assigned oil field, which is in line with the policies of the resistance economy.
Based on the roadmap approved by the National Iranian Oil Company and the signed contract, the first work package studies titled "Field identification, transforming field challenges into researchable topics, and screening all methods for increasing recovery and improving production" began on March 1, 2020. In this regard, and in view of the constructive interaction and cooperation between the National Iranian Oil Company, Sahand University of Technology, and the National Southern Oilfields Company, the following studies have been conducted so far and have been approved by the National Southern Oilfields Company:

Review of existing information, reports, and data and their quality assessment
Review and review of static and dynamic models related to the Masjed Soleiman field
Identification and classification of the main challenges of the field
Evaluation and ranking of challenges based on various criteria
Initial screening of recovery enhancement methods
In continuation of the first package of studies, the following studies are also being conducted:

Review of similar reservoir records
Conducting limited and preliminary tests
Simulation of conceptual model and sector model
Dr. Ahmadreza Mostafa Qarabaghi stated in an interview with reporters on Thursday: This is a 10-year contract, and in it, researchers from Sahand University will identify the complex issues and problems of this field and propose solutions.

He said: The existence of huge oil reserves in the country and the need to exploit this God-given wealth have prompted the authorities to seek scientific solutions to increase the extraction of these resources, and in this regard, studies of about 50 percent of the country's oil fields have been entrusted to universities.

The head of the Oil and Gas Research Institute of Sahand University also said: With the implementation of this research project, at least 10 to 15 percent increase in extraction will be achieved in the Masjed Soleiman oil field.
Dr. Tabatabaei, stating that both extraction and improvement of extraction are targeted in this project, added: In this project, methods that help increase extraction from the field will be presented, examined, proposed, and implemented in the field in a practical manner.

He added: Sahand University of Technology was previously the executor of the Soroush oil field study project on the continental shelf, and due to its good performance, research consulting for the Masjed Soleiman field was also entrusted to this university.

The Masjed Soleiman oil field was discovered in Khuzestan Province in 1927, and the amount of oil in it is estimated to be more than 6 billion barrels. The value of research contracts to increase the recovery of 11 oil fields and 2 gas fields with selected universities in the country is a total of 35 million euros and 716 billion tomans.
