Introduction to The Faculty

Sahand University of Technology has played a significant role in petroleum engineering education and research.
The university began its activities in this field in 2003 (1382 in the Iranian calendar), when it admitted Master’s students in Petroleum Engineering with a specialization in Reservoir Engineering.
In subsequent years, the university also started admitting Master’s students in other petroleum engineering disciplines, including Drilling, Production, and Exploration.
Later, after obtaining the necessary approvals, the university launched its Ph.D. program in Petroleum Engineering. The first doctoral student graduated in 2012 (1391).
Continuing the development of petroleum engineering at Sahand University, the undergraduate program in Petroleum Engineering was initiated in 2014 (1393).
Given the importance of establishing a specialized faculty, the university obtained the required authorization to establish the Faculty of Petroleum and Gas Engineering. In 2017 (1396), this faculty officially began its operations as the first of its kind in the north and northwest of the country.

Currently, the faculty admits students at three levels: Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering. A number of its graduates are now employed at key national petroleum centers and serve as influential managers in the country’s oil and gas industry.

Since 2015 (1394), Sahand University of Technology has been selected as one of the six universities designated by the Ministry of Petroleum as a consulting center for the development project of the Soroush oil field.
In this regard, the Faculty of Petroleum and Gas Engineering, in close collaboration with the Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC) — the main contractor — and international oil companies, has been actively involved in preparing and optimizing the development plan for the Soroush field.

Moreover, the university's Petroleum and Gas Research Center, as a research hub equipped with advanced laboratory facilities, supports the research activities of the faculty. All related experiments and research are conducted at this center.
