During the year, many internal and foreign tourists come to the village to enjoy the green area and climate especially in the summer.
The history of the university
One of the goals, which after Islamic revolution drew the attention of many authorities of the Islamic Government, was to create basic changes in the quality of the higher education centers to respond the future and present needs of the Islamic society.
Sahand University of Technology was established in 1989 to educate some parts of the country’s expert human forces in engineering fields by the approval of the council responsible for development of the universities and higher council of Cultural Revolution.
Along the aims of having a university and reaching its ideals, an area of 410 hectares for university campus and 1100 hectares for research purposes has been allocated between three towns of Ouskou, Azarshahr and Sahand new town in 35 Km far from Tabriz.
Educational activities
The university’s educational activities started from 1989 by accepting 48 students in metallurgy engineering and casting major. Now after 18 years of education we have 4 majors in associative course, 14 in B.Sc, 36 in M.Sc and 7 majors in PhD level. The faculties of metallurgy, chemistry, mining, electrical, civil, polymer, and mechanic engineering are among the faculties that accept students in different majors and the faculty of basic sciences is responsible for basic science courses and cognitive courses and accepts students in physics and mathematics. Also the Varzeghan technical institute accepts students in strip mining, ore decoration, and practical computer, and Benab’s technical institute also accept students in scientific practical communication- data communication in associative course. The university’s e-learning center has started to accept students in three fields; chemistry engineering, metallurgy engineering and bioeleectrical engineering.
